Round 3, Pick 1 (21) (Previous Picks LT, Grant)- Drew Brees, QB N.O. - I am very high on 5 QB's
and after that, there is a big fall off. Brees is #4 on this list and after snagging LT and Ryan Grant, going QB makes
some sense. There will be decent receivers left when it comes back to me, but I am certain the top 5 QB's will be
gone, maybe more. Remember too, Brees has added a great red zone target in Jeremy Shockey to go with all the other weapons.
And Brees threw the second most red zone passes in the league last year. Very solid pick. Round 3,
Pick 2 (22) (Brady, Edwards) - Thomas Jones, RB NYJ. - The most solid pick left is Marques Colston but you cannot
go 3 rounds without picking a running back, period. Jones is coming off a solid season from a yardage perspective but
only had 1 touchdown. Jones is a strong runner with no competition for the goal line carries. The Jets called
the second fewest running plays inside the 10 last year and now that Mangini is sitting on a very hot seat, the time for cute
play calling is over. Score at all costs which means more running into the end zone. Brett Favre will definitely
help back some safeties away from the line as well. This may be higher than you see him on most lists, but he is going
to be better than people think this year. Round 3, Pick 3 (23) (Moss, LJ) - Marques Colston,
WR N.O. - Colston is on the verge of superstar status. He has the whole package to put up stellar stats consistently.
Strong QB, solid running game, and he was the top red zone target in the league last year so he gets big opportunities to
use his elite size. The only concern, albeit a little one is his back has bothered him from time to time, but he usually
plays through it. Round 3, Pick 4 (24) (Addai, Gore) - TJ Houshmandzadeh, WR CIN. - Chad
Johnson gets all the press, but TJ gets all the looks in the red zone and seems to be the real go-to guy for Carson Palmer.
Let Johnson catch the occasional long ball and enjoy the constant targets/catches and TD's for TJ. Quietly putting
up double digit touchdowns every year. Round 3, Pick 5 (25) (Peterson, Romo) - Jamal Lewis, RB,
CLE. - Had a career year as he has found a great home in Cleveland. It could be a fluke, but his yards per carry were
way up after years trending down in Baltimore. Maybe he is fully over the knee injury/incarceration issues. Maybe
the Cleveland offense is a better fit. Maybe the play-calling is better suited to his style. Whatever the reason,
Lewis thrived in '07 and he is the last running back on the list who isn't dealing with a job share of some kind or
an injury issue. Round 3, Pick 6 (26) (Jackson, Jones-Drew) - Ben Roethlisberger, QB, PIT.
- Big Ben is coming off of a 30+TD year and both of his key wideouts dealt with injuries during the '07 season.
If Ward and Holmes stay healthy all year, Ben could put up numbers comparable to the top 4 guys on this list easily and may
well surpass them in scoring passes. This is also the smart pick in that the remaining players at both running back
and wide receiver are grouped fairly close, whereas Roethlisberger is the last of my 5 top QB's. Round
3, Pick 7 (27) (Barber, Portis) - Santonio Holmes, WR, PIT. - On a per game basis, Holmes was in the top 5 performers
last year. He simply needs to stay on the field and he will become the prime target for a top 5 QB in a creative offense
that throws the ball extremely well in the red zone. Holmes has also shown a penchant for being able to get deep which
can help league owners who have bonus points for long scores. He caught a 40 yard TD in the last pre-season game that
was played just to wet the appetite. Round 3, Pick 8 (28) (Westbrook, Fitzgerald) - Brandon Jacobs,
RB NYG. - This guy is another one who just needs to stay healthy. That and hope the goal line duties remain his and
not Droughns or someone else. When Jacobs is running well, he always falls forward for extra yards and is a load to
bring down in the open field. Good balance with Westbrook and Fitzy in the fold. Round 3, Pick 9 (29)
(Manning, Wayne) - Willis McGahee, RB BAL. - Falls this far solely due to the knee injury situation keeping him out
of preseason. If he comes back healthy, he will perform like a second round pick. But this is a big risk.
Any more setbacks during preseason and he will drop farther. Round 3, Pick 10 (30) (Owens, Lynch) - Michael
Turner, RB ATL. - Big opportunity here for Turner to finally have a #1 job. He will share some time with Norwood, but
Turner should start and get 75% of the carries and all the goal line work. The offense will be better than most think
with either Redman or Ryan at the helm. Rises above Bush, James, Parker simply because he has a clearer path to opportunity.
